The III Meeting of Coimbra / XXII International Tournament Queima das Fitas again presented an excellent competitive level. They were beaten five Portuguese national records and achieved two minimum for the European Championship of Junior and absolute. The organization is already thinking about 2011. The Olympic pool of Coimbra hosted 339 swimmers representing 49 clubs and two foreign national teams (Greece, Israel).

The fate of the greatest swimming race held in the city of students was defined when the organization promised to Coimbra on top of the sport. The Associacao Académica de Coimbra and the City Council quickly met this design. It's already assimilated into, that last week of May 2011 (28 and 29), all attention is directed to the Olympic Complex Solum.

To end, the organization (section swimming Academica Coimbra and City Council), wanted to publicly thank all the volunteers in this tournament who contributed to the success of this tournament, especially to schools in the Academica, cadets and children and other volunteers from various clubs and institutions of the city.
 
We would also like to express our satisfaction with the way in which athletes, coaches, masseurs, referees, timekeepers, officials of CMC and AAC, parents and the general public contributed to the success of the tournament. WELL, THANKS SO MUCH! 
 

 

Randall Bal and Kimberly Vandenberg have the highest scores


The Olympic Pool Complex of Coimbra, received this weekend a total of 339 swimmers representing 49 clubs and two teams (Greece and Israel) for two days of competition, with heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. We obtained six new national records, 15 new records of the Meeting, a minimum for the European Championships and one for the Absolute European Junior.

Nadia Vieira (GesLoures) swam the 200 styles in 2:19.80, improving by 10 hundredths his own record set almost exactly one year on the 2nd edition of this Meeting. This new record of 2:19.80 is senior record and all.

Sara Oliveira (FC Porto) at 27.44 in the 50 meters butterfly, surpassed her previous record of 27.63 (2007) and established a new national senior and absolute maximum. The FC Porto relay of 4x50-meter freestyle, formed by Paulo Santos (22.93), Joao Carvalho (22.93), Carlos Santos (23.71) and Rui Vilar (09.24) surpassed its own senior record established in 2010, swimming 1:33.66.

Duarte Mourao (Amadora Swimming Club) achieve minimum for the European Championships in Budapest Absolutes (9-15 August) with a time of 1:58.75 in the 200m butterfly. Mafalda Beleza (Sporting Clube de Portugal) swam near the national junior record of 200 meters back from Petra Chaves established in 1994, but secured a passport to the Helsinki European Junior (14 to July 18, 2010), with a time of 2 : 19.91.

Were also hit record highs of Meeting with records of great value from foreign swimmers. The Greek Ioannis Drymonakos won the 200m in 1:57.68 and 400E with 4:20:44 and Kimberly Vandenberg USA won the 200M with 2:11:08. Randall Bal won the AAC 50C with 25.21, slightly up from 24.97 yesterday, but today it started the day with 22:13 on the 2nd course of relay 50L.

Collectively the 3rd edition of Meeting City of Manchester was won by FC Porto with 276 points, followed by the selection of Israel with the selection of 222p and 138p with Greece. The best performances of the Meeting were to Randall Bal (Associacao Académica de Coimbra) in 50metres back with 24.97 (892 points) and Kimberly Vandenberg (American swimmer from Marseille team) in the 200 meter butterfly with 2:11:08 (834 points). This was followed by Ioannis Drymonakos (Greek selection) in the 200 meter butterfly with 1:57.68 (850 points), Duarte Mourao (Amadora Swimming Club) in 200etros butterfly with 1:58.75 (828 points), Sara Oliveira (FC Porto ) in the 100 meters butterfly with 1:00:16 (809 points) and Eleni Kosti (Greek selection) in the 200 freestyle with 2:02.92 (776 points).

The Third Meeting of Coimbra City / XXII International Tournament Queima das Fitas is an event organized by the Associacao Académica de Coimbra  (www.natacaoaac.com) with the support of the Municipality of Coimbra and is part of the festivities of the Queima das Fitas.

We obtained six new records of the event and a new national record for the swimmer Nadia Vieira from the Portuguese team GesLoures.

The only individual services above 800 FINA points table went to Randall Bal (Associacao Académica de Coimbra) in the 50 meters backstroke with 24.97 (892p), Yakov Toumarkin (Israel) in the 100 meters backstroke with 55.61 (814p), Sara Oliveira (Football FC Porto) in the 100 meters butterfly in 1:00:16 (809p) and Ioannis Drymonakos (Greece) in the 200 meters with 2:02.76 styles (802p). The best male swimmer of the day was Portuguese Simao Morgado (Clube de Natacao da Amadora) in the 100m butterfly with 53.94 (787p).

 

 

Over the next 29 and May 30 will be present in the Olympic Pool in Coimbra (p50m), a total of 339 swimmers representing 49 clubs and two teams (Greece and Israel).

American swimmer Randall Bal has been licensed FPN (Portuguese Swimming Federation) to compete on behalf of the Academic Association of Coimbra and will make his debut for the team of students in this historic Meeting. Bal has been holding the world record of 50Back, both in pool 25, as 50 meters. In 2007 he won the World Cup with an unprecedented unbeaten record in tests on his back, where he won the seventh stage when the 50, 100 and 200 meters.

Swimmer American Kimberly Vandenberg won a bronze medal in the OJ Pequim'08 (preliminaries of 4x200Free with 1:58:31) and silver medal in the World Melbourne'07 (200Fly in 2:06.71.) It is his 2nd presence in Coimbra after their participation in 2009.

Greek swimmer Ioannis Drymonakos back in Coimbra on international stages after two years away for doping. In the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven (Netherlands) won the 200m with a new European record that he was later annulled. Now back in force to try a good presence in Europe this summer in Budapest.

Also noteworthy was the participation of Portuguese with minimum 8 to the European Championships. CGA Diogo Carvalho, Alexandre Agostinho Portin, Sara Oliveira FCP and Nadya Vieira GESL are already confirmed for the European Championships in Budapest Absolutes which are held between 9 and August 15. Gustavo Santa CNLA, Miguel Diogo CNAL, Gonçalo SFUAP Gregory and Diana Richardson CFV will participate in the Junior European Championships in Helsinki to take place between 14 and 18 July.

The Third Meeting of Coimbra City / XXII International Tournament Burning of the Ribbons is an event organized by the Associação Académica de Coimbra with the support of the Municipality of Coimbra and falls in the festivities of "Queima das Fitas" (the Burning of the Ribbons)
